Cat & Austin’s Engagement Session | Franklin Mills Riveredge Park, Kent, Ohio

August 20th, 2025

Some love stories feel like they were always meant to be written, and Cat and Austin’s is one of them. These two first crossed paths while attending Kent State University in Ohio, a campus known not only for its beautiful grounds but also for its profound history. Founded in 1910, Kent State has grown into one of the largest universities in Ohio, recognized nationally for its programs in education, nursing, architecture, and more. For Cat and Austin, though, it wasn’t just about academics—it was the place where their paths intertwined and their journey together began.

We met up for their engagement session at the Franklin Mills Riveredge Park in Kent. This park is such a gem—it winds beautifully along the Cuyahoga River and offers both charming small-town streets and peaceful riverside views. The park is a part of Kent’s revitalized downtown, which has always been tied to the river’s history. Back in the 1800s, Franklin Mills (as Kent was originally called) was a booming industrial town with mills powered by the river. Today, Riveredge Park stands as a place of beauty and relaxation, with walking trails, stone steps by the water, and colorful murals that make it a photographer’s dream.

Adding to the character of downtown Kent is the historic Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad Depot, built in 1875. Once a hub for travelers and trade, the depot is now a symbol of Kent’s heritage and a charming backdrop that connects the past with the present. Photographing Cat and Austin near these historic spots made their session feel timeless.

The skies were partly cloudy, and we even had a touch of light rain—but instead of dampening the mood, it added a soft, romantic glow to the day. There’s just something magical about raindrops falling gently while two people in love laugh and hold onto each other. Some of my favorite photos from the session came from those sweet, spontaneous moments in the rain.

Cat’s flowing white dress looked dreamy against the brick streets and greenery, while Austin’s casual style perfectly complemented the relaxed, joyful vibe of the shoot. Whether they were walking hand-in-hand, twirling by the gazebo, or stealing a kiss by the river, their love radiated through every frame.

I couldn’t be more excited for their wedding on August 1st, 2025. If their engagement session was any indication, it’s going to be a day filled with joy, romance, and heartfelt moments that celebrate their journey from college sweethearts to husband and wife.

Congratulations, Cat and Austin—your love story is beautiful, and I can’t wait to capture the next chapter!
